SRA Masters World Champions

July 24, 2005. Twelve masters rowers from Sammamish Rowing Association traveled from Redmond to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada this past week to participate in the World Masters Games. The games are held every 4 years, in various parts of the world. This year's games hosted over 21,000 athletes competing in 27 major sport categories. In the rowing competition there were 1,074 competitors from 20 countries. The competition was a 1000 meter sprint race.

Sammamish Rowers brought home Gold medals in:
Women’s B 4- (Hanna Yuse--Sammamish, Wendy Beeman--Sammamish, Theresa Knakal—Mill Creek, Sandra McGinnis--Sammamish) with a time of 3:44
Women’s C 4- (Hanna Yuse--Sammamish, Nancy Myers--Issaquah, Wendy Beeman--Sammamish, Tammy Smith--Redmond) with a time of 4:04
Mixed B 2x (Dan Voicu--Redmond, Sandra McGinnis--Sammamish) with a time of 3:48.82

The team also brought home a Bronze medal in the Women’s B 2- (Wendy Beeman--Sammamish, Hanna Yuse--Sammamish) with a time of 4:10.

Only gold medals were awarded in the mixed gender events, but Sammamish also placed in other races:
2nd place in the Mixed B 4x (Dan Voicu--Redmond, Christian Petculescu--Redmond, Theresa Knakal—Mill Creek, Sandra McGinnis—Sammamish) with a time of 3:35.12
3rd in the Mixed B 8+ (Sandra McGinnis(cox)--Sammamish, Dan Voicu--Redmond, Steve Isaac--Redmond, Hanna Yuse--Sammamish, Theresa Knakal--Mill Creek, Wendy Beeman--Sammamish, Nancy Myers--Issaquah, and two Canadian rowers) with a time of 3:26.

The World Masters Games will be held in Sydney, Australia in 2009.
