Twenty two Masters rowers from SRA headed up to Victoria, British
Columbia last Friday for the Canadian Masters Open Rowing Championships
on Elk Lake. Despite continuous rain on Saturday and strong cross winds
on Sunday, SRA rowers had a great showing at the regatta, earning 12
golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes. To avoid rough water starts the course
was turned around, making the start of the race virtually on the beach,
and the finish in the middle of the lake. This made for an interesting
experience for both the rowers and the spectators. It was unusual to
hear cheering at the start instead of the finish, and gave spectators an
interesting insight into the start of races. The gold medals were
earned in the following categories:
Men’s A 4x (McGinnis, Liptack, Longley, Eames)
Women’s C 8+ (De Boer, Krumm, Gorman, Beeman, Warden, Myers, Yuse,
Morrison)
Mixed C 4+ (Longley, Liptack, Gorman, Myers)
Men’s Lightweight A 2x (Eames, Beeman)
Women’s Lightweight B 2x (Knakal, McGinnis)
Men’s A 4+ (McGinnis, Liptack, Longley, Eames)
Mixed B 4x (Voicu, Biery, Knakal, McGinnis)
Mixed A 4x (Voicu, Biery, Knakal, McGinnis)
Men’s A 2- (Longley, Wike)
Men’s Lightweight AA 1x (Eames)
Men’s AA 2x (Eames, Wike)
Mixed A 2x (Voicu, McGinnis)
Congratulations, SRA Masters Rowers on your great
performance in Canada!
